They may not be as common as Denny’s or Waffle House, but they are still fairly common. The demographic of people that dine at IHOP are typically older which is why it was a shock to me when I found out that IHOP was active on TikTok. This must be IHOP’s way of trying to attract younger customers to their restaurants. Their most recent TikTok publicity campaign was the sponsorship of #SyrupTurnUp!

So as it turns out IHOP does have a TikTok account and they use it pretty frequently. Their most recent action on TikTok was their sponsorship of #syrupturnup. This sponsored hashtag on TikTok features videos by a number of popular influencers on TikTok. Six different influencers were commissioned to create their own syrup turn up video and post it to the hashtag. This got the hashtag trending on the front page of Tik Tok and got other people involved with the trend.

Basically the videos on #SyrupTurnUp consist of a number of syrup bottles lip syncing to the song silent night. Suddenly the base drops and all the people in the restaurant start going crazy. People do flips, smash their head into a pile of pancakes, or even make a mask out of one of their pancakes. Things seem to get a little out of hand!

For the IHOP Syrup Turn Up campaign, IHOP created their own custom audio. This mash up of Silent Night and some Dubstep really make for an interesting combo that really reflects the craziness of these Tik Tok videos. IHOP named the song for #syrupturnup “Not So Silent Night” which is a play on words from the original song title. This song is available for TikTok users to use and create their own submissions to #syrupturnup!
